Milan Fashion Week 2012: Fruit, veg and micro-trends

Say hello to a new wave of fruity dresses and vegetable motifs at Milan Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2012. Yep, this MFW was all about groceries, as Dolce & Gabbana and Moschino went big on apple cart prints. Plus, Versus, Bottega Veneta and Missoni rock the catwalk. Bottega Veneta Spring/Summer 2012: 'Bottega Veneta didn't explicitly follow a Fifties outline but after Jil Sander and Prada it was, to me, the best show of the week – immaculate, fabulously grown up, and a riot of gorgeous rich colours.' Jess Cartner-Morley

il Sander Spring/Summer 2012 women's collection: 'Raf Simons has yet another smash hit collection on his hands at Jil Sander. This time a modern spin on the 1950s – it featured delightful netted veil hats by Stephen Jones.' Simon Chilvers

Emilio Pucci women's Spring-Summer 2012: 'Pucci, under the tenure of designer Peter Dundas has become all about a haute hippie – it's a look popular with A-listers like Kylie and most recently Gwyneth Paltrow at the Emmys. For next season he added a gypsy flavour into the mix with long patterned skirts and mid-drift peasant-like tops.' Simon Chilvers

Moschino Cheap & Chic Spring Summer 2012: 'It started with fruit – Prada bananas, Stella citrus. Now fashion has gone veg. Moschino and Dolce are united behind this Milanese trend.'Simon Chilvers

Marni Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection: 'Marni jewellery has always been popular so it's only right that the label are part of the Swinging-Earrings-Are-The-New-Handbags trend coming through from Milan.' Simon Chilvers
Marni Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection: 'Pastel + 1950s vibe + dangling earrings = a Marni triple trend ticking catwalk equation.' Simon Chilvers
Missoni Spring/Summer 2012: 'Missoni are known for clashing patterns and busy knits – this look is their take on summer. Part hippie, part siren. Note: mid-drifts are a (worrying) micro trend.' Simon Chilvers
Missoni Spring/Summer 2012: 'Fringearama at Missoni.' Simon Chilvers
Versus Spring/Summer 2011: 'Christopher Kane designs Versus – you can tell. This is a sexy spin on a sports couture theme in pastels. Pastels, btw, are massive for next season.' Simon Chilvers

Dolce & Gabbana Spring-Summer 2012 ready-to-wear collection: 'Spicy at Dolce where the vegetable/food theme ran from aubergine prints to pasta shaped earrings. Imagine the high-street copying these with gusto.' Simon Chilvers
Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2012: 'If wasp-waisted, full-skirted, looking-hot-at-the-vegetable-market-while-demurely-ignoring-wolf-whistles dresses are your thing then Dolce & Gabbana are happy to oblige; and we can all look forward to allotment chic hitting the high street, as those splashy aubergine prints make their way down the fashion food chain.' Jess Cartner-Morley
Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2012: 'Aside from veg at Dolce, there were jewels. Obviously. Heavily embellished surfaces were also big in London. Basically, next spring your dress should rattle or rustle or make some sort of (expensive) noise.' Simon Chilvers
